The International Center for Innovation (ICI), established in the northern part of Denmark, is a strong platform and framework for innovation of global business models. The center is located at Aalborg University at the Center for Industrial Production (CIP) - rooted in the international research environment – with researchers based in the US (Silicon Valley), Asia (Shanghai) and Europe.
Often, global innovation business opportunities are not utilized by companies, and very few innovate for the global market. At the same time several studies show that much of the research in innovation, done at universities and innovation in companies, remain at the level of idea and concept – never fulfilling its commercial potential.
In order to bring Danish innovation to the forefront and push it towards the global market, ICI wishes to utilize the position Aalborg University possesses within research in innovation – in cooperation with companies and nonprofit organizations in the Northern Part of Denmark. ICI supports the creativity, innovation and commercialization of global business models. This support takes place through innovative and “practicable” projects, an “idea and concept laboratory” and a “prototype- and bringing to market laboratory”.
Innovation and research across innovation domains
ICI will innovate and research across innovation domains – in a new and different way. ICI’s focus will be on innovation based on cross-institutional qualifications and competences. In other words, by focusing on innovation and development of global business models across the field of researchers and knowledge advisors as well as company qualifications – on a physical, digital and virtual level - ICI will innovate and do research in a new and different way.
The vision is to create new types of businesses, research and desirability, as it is happening in other places around the world e.g. Silicon Valley, Munich, Shanghai, Barcelona etc. The vision, however, is not to copy other innovative environments – but to network internationally in new, viable and long-term ways.
An international and outgoing center for innovation
ICI will consequently be the framework for a new kind of innovation research and education activities. ICI will be an outgoing and important innovation partner for companies and researchers – regionally, nationally and internationally. ICI is the first of its kind with this novel approach to innovation – not only in Denmark - but internationally as well.
